Approach
Operating philosophy.
ELK Ventures Group is built on a small set of convictions about ownership, time, and operating quality. They are not slogans. They are the standard against which we evaluate every decision.
A holding company is, in the end, a system for allocating capital and attention. We do both deliberately. We prefer fewer, better decisions to many adequate ones. We prefer companies we can understand, in industries we are willing to stay in for a long time, run by operators we are willing to back through more than one cycle.
We have no interest in being clever. We are not chasing themes, and we are not optimizing for narrative. We are trying to build a durable, multi-decade collection of operating businesses across software, services, and real estate that can be owned patiently and run well.
Our work is concentrated in the central United States. We operate primarily in Texas, Colorado, and Arkansas, with an emerging long-horizon presence in the Middle East as part of an international diversification strategy.
The principles below describe how we approach that work.
